Abstract

The religious heritage is considered one of the most important sources from which contemporary writers drew their topics and applied them to their creative works. Therefore, we find an intense presence of religious tendency in various literary works, whether poetry or prose. This study deals with the utilization of religious heritage in the historical novels of Radwa Ashur. She is considered one of the representative writers who drew on religious heritage. She relied on religious sources and was inspired by its meanings in her writings, especially in her historical novels. The phenomenon of functionality of religious heritage is prominent in the fabric of her literature whether at the level of formulation and formation or at the level of significance and vision. So, the study focuses on the religious linguistic discourse which has been employed by Radwa Ashur in her historical novels through various methods, structures, and words, all of which evoke the Islamic religious word, which is manifested in the language of Holy Quran, the Prophet’s (peace be upon Him) Hadith and Christian books. There are seven novels written by Radwa, five of which are historical, namely: Siraj, the Granada Trilogy, A Piece of Europe, Faraj and the last of which is Tantouria. So, the researcher will address five above-mentioned novels by the writer pointing the religious heritage utilized by her.
