Abstract

The research article intends to explore the employed methodology and characteristics features of Prof. Ghulām Wārith’s translation of the Holy Qur’ān. History certifies that with the expansion of Islam to different regions of globe, its translation to respective languages was felt an inevitable necessity. Therefore, Islamic Scholars endeavored hard to translate the Holy Qur’ān for the good of believers. The same natural demand of newly Islamized audience of sub-continent was addressed by local religious scholars who went for Persia and later on Urdu translations. This mammoth effort of making Qur’ān easy to be learnt and understood is in work endlessly. One of the worthy scholars among these is Wāriṯh, a Professor of Chemistry from Anbāla. His Urdu translation of the Holy Qur’ān is considered a unique and matchless masterpiece. Scientific approach, diversity of meanings, abundance of explanatory notes, comments and statements, language expertise, easy and fluent style etc. are some of salient features to name. In a nutshell, Professor Wāriṯh’s translation, though liable to human error, is highly cautious and appreciable effort of spreading the message of Islam.
