The status of peace in Islam highlights from its name as the word Islam as a verb is derived from the infinitive Arabic trilateral root of “silm”. Peace is regarded among basic and supreme objectives of Sharī’ah. This article intends to show evidence from religious sources that assert that Islam is not a religion that endorses terrorism but one that emphasizes peace and salvation. And even in the battlefields where usually rule of “no mercy” is regarded, Muslims are strictly prohibited to fight those who put their weapons down. Strict Punishment for Hirābah (unlawful warfare and banditry) has been fixed for those who are found involved in Highway robberies with grand larceny and disturb the internal security matters. By these Injunctions, it can easily be concluded that Islam deserves to be labeled as religion of peace.
