Journalism Ethics and Media Practices
Keywords:
Journalism Ethics, Media Practices, Islamic Communication StudiesAbstract
This paper attempts to highlight the need of ethics in journalism field with
respect to Islamic teachings; underpinnings that The Qur’ān asks us to keep
peace and harmony among human beings. Journalism is considered as the
Fourth pillar of the estate and ought to have a great influence on the lives of
people in this era of digitalization. Journalists all over the world follow certain
codes of conduct which define their actions and proceedings. In Pakistan, there
are no codes properly established and being followed by journalists. Some
journalists’ associations have developed some rules and regulations but those
rules lack the references of Islamic teachings. The Qur’ān as a complete code of
conduct contains every guideline that a journalist might need in his/her line of
duty. This paper attempts to define the religious affiliation of ethics with
journalism that would illustrate a way to improve the distorted image of
Muslims in the world and will counter the association of Islam as the religion of
extremism.
