Abstract

Mauling Rasheed Ahmed Gangohi(1829-1905A-D),the co-founder of Dar-ul-uloom
Deoband was an eminent scholar of Sub-Continent who, after getting academic
proficiency in various branches of Islamic studies, continued serving Islam in
various fields such as teaching Hadith, Fiqh and Tafseer, Supervision of Madaris
and writing books. He was an adapt in fiqh as well as in Hadith. His Fatawa entitiled
"Fatawa Rasheedia" and his lectures on Sihah-e-sitta got great fame. These
lectures were transcribed and edited by his genius pupil Maulana Yahya Kandhalvi.
Lame-ud-Durrari (brief commentary on Bukhari) and Al-kaukab-ud-Durri (brief
commentary on Tirmazi) are the masterpieces in which Gangohi brought solid
interpretations to solve obscures in Hadith. He successfully tried to authenticate the
Hanafi fiqh with a large number of references from Hadith. This article explores the
salient features of these books.
