Abstract

Shāh Abdul Azīz Muḥaddith Dehlvi was Shāh
Walīullah's most elderly son. He is rightly regarded
among the most influential figures of the subcontinent,
especially in Sunnī theology. This article aims to shine a
light on his famous books. As his sight became very
faint after falling ill with various diseases most of his
books are recorded commentaries compiled by his
followers. Tafsīr Fatḥ Al-Azīz is a partial commentary
on the Qur’ān that is widely consulted by Muslim
scholars for its diversity and comprehension. Other
famous writings include Bustān Al-Muḥaddithīn and
Ujālah Nāfi'ah which present biographies of Muḥadithīn
and principles of Ḥadīth. His Fatāwā (Juristic rulings)
known as Fatāwā Azīzī is also renowned in academia for
its authenticity. He could be the first author in the
subcontinent who gave an authentic and detailed answer
to the objections raised by Shī’ah addressing almost all
the controversial theological and historic issues.
Malfūzāt Azīzī is a compilation of his sayings. It reflects
his mastery of various sciences. The author of this article
concludes that some exclusive research on the aspect of
his expertise in diverse sciences needs to be done to
establish his academic expertise.
