Abstract

It is agreed upon amongst Islamic scholars that the Holy Quran is the book, which is not full of rhymed prose (Saja') and the term of "Fasilah" is utilized for the final words of the Ayahs of the Holy Quran. Nevertheless, Islamic scholars have two contradictory points of view whether the term of "rhymed prose" is applicable for the rhyming final words of the Ayahs of the Holy Quran or not. Although, both groups seem to have contradictory views, yet finally both have the same stand that the rhymed prose that the Holy Quran contains, is the form of rhymed prose in which meanings possess primary significance, whereas the significance of rhyming words is secondary.

And owing to these characteristics, this form is considered the best form of rhymed prose. However, the suitable term for the final words of the Ayahs of the Holy Quran is Fasilah, not Saja' because the term frequently applied for the words of human beings i.e., Saja' is not appropriate to be used for the word of Allah i.e., the Holy Quran. In addition, the music of the Holy is not affected whether the term of Saja' is being employed for the final words of the Ayahs of the Holy Quran or Fasilah as it follows a unique system which has no connection with this controversy.
