Zakāt Recipients, Muallafat al-Qulūb, Contemporary jurisprudential IssuesAbstract
The Holy Qur’ān has fixed eight categories of Zakāt recipients in verse 60 of the surah Tawbah. One of the most important and debatable of them is "Muallafat al-Qulūb". All interpretations narrated by the Muslim jurists and contemporary scholars regarding the word "Muallafat al-Qulūb", have expressively defined this word as for the recently converted Muslims or non-Muslims to pay them Zakāt on the bases of alluring and strengthening on Islamic beliefs and practices. Second debatable thing regarding this head of Zakāt is that either the direction of this head has been cancelled or not. But as a whole, the conclusion of the research is that this heading of Zakāt is not cancelled. However, the case of persuading the non-Muslims with the money of Zakāt is not considerable because the Holy Prophet (SAW) never helped any non-Muslims with Zakāt money rather he helped them from other headings of State revenue. This article analysis the views and arguments both the cliques / coteries in determining the nature of " Muallafat al-Qulūb".
