The materialistic interpretation of historical incidents has become an established method of interpreting history not for the historians but also for those Orientalists who often appear to explain the important incidents of Islamic history in the light of historical materialism. In this article an attempt has been made to analyse the views of those Orientalists who have tried to interpret the wars fought in the life of Holy Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W) on materialistic grounds and have tried to prove that the real purpose of Prophet's struggle was to establish his own rule in an independent state where all his desires could be fulfilled without any opposition. Writers who try to fit the life and teachings of the Prophet (S.A.W) in the frame of historical materialism, appear to overlook the very essence of his teachings. While applying such ideas to the life of the Prophet, some Orientalists even try to smear his character by saying that the purpose of all his struggles was to gain power and authority which he finally achieved in Madinah. In this research paper the views of such writers (who either try to prove Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W) a power thirsty warrior or portray him as a common man, overpowered by his desires, have been analysed in the light of historical facts,Quran and Hadith.
