Abstract

The study begins by highlighting smoking as a significant global health concern, with mortality and morbidity impacting millions of people worldwide. It mentions the rising numbers of smokers, with 1.3 billion smokers globally, a large percentage of whom live in developing countries. It notes that smoking causes 5 million deaths annually, a figure that may rise to 10 million by 2025. The economic burden of smoking-related illnesses is also significant, with an estimated cost of $200 billion annually. Furthermore, the World Health Organization (WHO) reports there are over 1 billion smokers, with smoking being the main cause of 6 million deaths per year.
