Abstract

Abū Bakr Muḥammad ibn al-Ṭayyib al-Bāqillānī (d. 403 AH) was a great proloific Muslim scholar and a well known polymath who contributed to Qur’ānic sciences splendidly. His magnum opus I‘jāz al-Qur’ān in delves into expounding the debates regarding miraculous nature of the Holy Qur’ān with such an astute way that it has been consusly considered a fundamental source book for all the successors over the subject of Ijāz. He has presented the theory of reasons of Ijāz while deviding into three major ingredients including its predictions about future or “akhbār al-ghyb”, its description of historical facts and its eloquent formation and style “badi al-Nazm wa ajib al-Talif”. His expertise over speculative theology and other Islamic sciences makes him a notable figure in scholastic cirlcle. Bāqillānī’s Ijāz al-Qur’ān attracts a significant consideration of Qur’ānic scientist and as an accomplished rhetorical stylist; al- Bāqillānī is worth to be studies more and more. This article provides with an introductory presentation of his thoughts on Qur’ānic sciences in the perspective of his book “Ijāz al-Qur’ān”.
